Thanks for all the submissions for the remix competition. The tracks are currently being poured over by the judges and the results will be posted on Saturday 21st December.
Thanks to everyone who took part and we all hope you enjoyed the process. There is a sneaky peak of the new Suspire single (that the remixes will released alongside) on their soundcloud. You can listen HERE.
Hot off their lightening set (so I heard… and believe) at T in the Park the riproaring Velveteen Saints look to take Wickerman by storm. If you want to dance, headbang, trip-out, shoegaze – or find that perfect “spank-track” – then this band are for you! I’m getting a real Wildhearts vibe!
I really hope to catch these guys at the Wickerman Festival. If you’re going, they are playing the ‘goNORTH Festival Tour Tent’ on the Friday.
Here’s what a a wordsmith who listens to music said about them:
” Think the Raveonettes/Eddie Cochran with a major caffeine injection; big beats, surf guitars, catchy melodies and three-part vocals. Formed in their hometown of Glasgow in the Summer of 2012, a succession of DIY sold-out gigs led to the band supporting the likes of Tim Burgess (The Charlatans), Peter Hook (Joy Division), Peace and The View. The band are currently working towards their debut release as well as hoping to build on their growing live reputation in 2013.”
All I can say is, if you like Mumford and Sons you’ll fucking hate these guys! That’s a glorious compliment as far as I am concerned!
Unlike my tennis playing compatriot, Axis Sounds hasn’t been in the public eye of late. However, be assured I’ve been as busy as usual working away on some sonic lovelies to wet your ear gammies! You may also have noticed I am now speaking in the first person. So, I am speaking directly to you from my own mind-muscle… it’s Brian by the way!
Here’s what is coming up in the next month or so (check out the links for more information):
Recordings for the new EP from 319Records artist Thomas Miller have now started. It’s haunting, sweet and melancholic and features vocals from yours truly and a special appearance from “Dee”.
Suspire’s album is beginning to shape up nicely with new tracks ‘Yes!’ and “On a clear day” wrapped up.
New single “Torment” from Glasgow muso PK. It’s a little hip-hoppy, a little reggae, and RnB and totally rocks!
Work on my new solo EP has started and I am happy to announce that Joe Williams of ‘Kill The Waves’ fame is co-writing/producing some of the tracks!
Production has started on new songs for Dee’s upcoming release. I am co-writing two of the tracks and they are sounding great!
A free download of one of the tracks I recorded with Emma’s Imagination is now available… HERE. Also, look out for me and Clare Kelly as we join Emma for a few of her shows on her upcoming tour.
Oh yes, and Suspire will be rocking the Wickerman Festival this year so if you’re going nip along to the Acoustic tent for 5.40pm on the Saturday… full band!
I’ll also be booking a few solo gigs for the end of July into August so watch this space for more info. Of course, all the information you will ever need is available via our facebook page… please like us (me) as we (I) are (am) nice and hardworking!
Like Hansel, Waiting for Go are so hot right now! They will be tearing up the summer with appearances at some of the best events in the UK, including a a little known festival called T in the Park! The line-up has been ridiculed this year but these are one of those special gems that should be uncovered by everybody.
Slick and punchy pop there is loads for everyone and we personally reckon this time next year they will be household names.
Indulge yourself. Listen to one of their singles here.
(Note: We have not been involved with this band but we are loving the production from Rocket Science)
“We are a five piece alternative act that formed at the beginning of 2012. Our influences stem from many genres of music (blues/rock/funk/jazz/soul) which makes our sound pretty difficult to categorise. We’re just released our debut EP so head over to our music and check it out!”
Their new EP “Dirt in Disguise” was released in April 2013 through Clay Davis Records.
Snippets from the acoustic EP from Emma Gillespie are available to whet your appetities. You can listen here, but we highly recommend you check all of Emma’s stuff out… you will probably hear something you already know.
As always, we urge you to support local recording artists through buying their music. Emma’s debut LP, as well as productions we have been involved with(links below), are available through all the usual online vendors.
Preview the new EP from Brian Cunningham on the left hand side. It’s called “There’s no such thing as…” and if you like it, why not buy it and support some local music. All profits go straight to the artist. See our page “Purchasing Music from Axis Sounds: Why Bandcamp?” for more information.
